Will using maca root during menopause make me more fertile?

by Jan

I have entered menopause (actually haven't gone a full year without periods) so wondered if taking the maca root herb will interrupt the process and make me more fertile. Thanks!

Answer:

From what the research shows, maca can help affect menstrual regulation and increase libido and fertility. Many women supplement with maca when they're trying to get pregnant.

It's clear that women can still get pregnant during menopause, and because maca is known to increase your fertility it looks like it "may" increase your chances of getting pregnant. Although it is rare, you aren't completely free until post menopause.

As you mentioned you're not fully "menopausal" because you haven't gone the full 12 months without a period. If they're still showing up you're probably still ovulating. Adding maca root has increased fertility in certain cases so it may increase it in yours as well.

If you're not fully in menopause and you take something like maca which increases your fertility you run the risk of getting pregnant. I can't comment on the chances of this happening, but there are certainly cases where unexpected pregnancies occur in the "perimenopausal" situation where you're making the shift into permanent infertility.

I am definitely not an expert in this by any means, but just through research it would seem that your chances of pregnancy are low, even with supplementing maca, however to stay on the safe side some sort of contraception should be used if you don't want to get pregnant.

I'm not familiar with your unique situation but most people don't want to get pregnant around this time so playing it safe during this "shady" area is recommended.

Another supplement that is highly recommended for women entering menopause is Xtend Life's Female Rejuvenator. This supplement is known to also increase fertility but it has many other health benefits for women and comes from a very high quality supplement company.

If you're soon to be in the menopause stage or suffering from PMS this is definitely a supplement worth reading up on.
