Most of the whey protein side effects aren't too serious.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, do not take any supplements before talking with your doctor.

The only whey protein side effects that have been noted are where people with kidney trouble take whey and experience complications.

Most claims by individuals who are against supplements point out the cases where people who already have something wrong with them. They experience more problems and blame the supplements.

This has happened with creatine. There are so many creatine studies and the only one that claims it gives complications is where test subjects had prior medical complications.

Whey is the same. There's no scientific studies suggesting side effects from whey. Protein is used in your body when it is needed.

If you train hard, and use your muscles, protein gets used up to rebuild and help them grow.

Having high levels of protein in your body helps build your muscles.


If your protein levels are low, all your back breaking work in the gym is a waste.

It's always better to have more protein than less protein.

Don't worry about taking too much protein.

If you're working out with weights, you should aim for 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Some experts even suggest more. Eating 1 gram per pound is not an easy task in itself, therefore you probably have nothing to worry about regarding eating too much protein.

But at the same time, don't go crazy and drink the stuff all day long, you'll probably be sick to your stomach.

Most supplements travel through your liver in some form. If you take too much of any kind of supplement in one sitting, your body won't be able to process it. This is true for all the muscle building supplements.

If you take too much creatine, the body can't process it and flushes it out. Too much glutamine in one sitting is also a waste, and you'll probably get a sore stomach. Your body can only handle a certain amount at a time.

So whey is the same. More is better but with reasonable dosages. Your liver won't be able to process the whey if there's too much in one sitting. Too much is a waste of whey, waste of money and a risk for feeling sick.


There are some very low risk whey protein side effects

Certain brands might not digest well in your particular body. If you've never taken whey before, and jump right into 3 shakes a day, you might get a sore stomach or some gas.

People have complained about having to keep running to the bathroom. If you're body is not used to supplementing whey, always start with low levels. One or two scoops a day for the first few weeks, then increase if you require more protein.


There may be some whey protein side effects with cheap products

I had a friend who spent the good part of the day in the washroom because he took some whey that was expired. Always check the lables for the expiration date. If you buy your products from a cheap discount nutrition store be careful you're not getting expired products.

It's better to order from a reputable store with high quality, well known products.

Are you lactose intolerant?
