Whey Protein Isolate vs. Whey Protein ConcentrateIsolates are usually more expensive, but are they worth it?Is whey protein isolate better than whey protein concentrate? In terms of muscle building there's probably no real advantage between the two types of whey proteins. So what's the difference between whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate? Well, isolates will have a higher protein content than concentrates. What this means is that their protein source is more pure. However the difference is not that big, we're talking maybe a 10% difference. Most protein isolates are also lactose free. If you are lactose intolerant you will want to avoid whey protein concentrates and stick to the isolates. Most experts believe that if you're not lactose intolerant, there usually isn't a justification to use isolates over concentrates. Paying more for a 10% difference in purity is generally not a recommendation, because the function between these two proteins is relatively the same. In terms of supplying you with the benefits of whey, both types are pretty even.
