How does Whey Protein effect existing health conditions?

I have heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Is Whey Protein safe for me? - I've been on a strict diet for weight loss. Recently I've experienced a lot of hair loss and was told I needed to add more protein to my diet. Whey Protein is what I am considering using.

Answer:

Whey protein should be safe for you, however you will find that it is always recommended to check with your doctor if you're taking other medications.

Whenever people give advice about supplements, it's important to mention that if you're taking prescribed medication that you check before adding new supplements. This is just the safe recommendation that you will hear from almost everyone.

That being said, whey protein should not be a problem for you. Most whey proteins today are very pure and are a good source of protein. If you haven't been advised to stay away from protein, then whey should not give you a problem.

Because you've actually been advised to consume more protein, whey is a good choice. In fact this is exactly how supplements are supposed to be used. They conveniently help customize your diet.

Whey protein is like any other type of protein, except that it is absorbed by your body much faster. This is why it's great for people who exercise. If you're fine with eggs, meat and so on, whey protein will be fine.

The only concern would be if you're lactose intolerant. In this case make sure you get a pure isolate whey protein.

Weight gainers which have whey protein in them will also have lots of sugar so you won't want to use those. A good protein like Optimum Whey will be fine for you.

Whey Protein Affecting Army Drug Tests

by Moises Rodriguez
(Hyattsville Maryland Prince George County)

I live a active life lifting 2hrs a hr a piece and running till i burn off 1200 calories.i take whey protein as bsn foundation and up your mass. my supplement are arginine pills 3000 mg and animal pak. im now joining the army and laid off protein and supplement cause i don't kwnow if it is going to affect the result of my physical and piss test.i don't take anything illegal but wondering if taking whey protein and supplements listed will affect the results of my test. Can someone tell me if it does effect the result?

Answer:

With those supplements listed you should be fine. Whey protein is just another form of protein so it should not make you fail a drug test. To be safe I would avoid testosterone boosters of any kind.

This question comes up a lot and the best people to ask would be the organization behind the drug tests. Ask them what supplements you are allowed to use in order to make sure 100% you will be fine.

I can't give you an exact answer, but those supplements you listed should not make you fail a standard drug test. If you want to play it super safe just stop using them until you're clear.

Can type 2 diabetic people take whey protein?

I am 20 years old and am type 2 diabetic and take insulin shots twice a day to control my sugar also I do not have a great stomach. Digestion is a little of a problem for me now and then. So is it safe to take protein? If yes which one? And in what contents should I consume it?

Answer:

Whey protein should be safe for you, however you will want to start with a low dosage.

Whey protein is a great source of protein because it is absorbed by your body very fast, and it is very convenient to take.

A pure protein supplement will have very low amounts of sugar so controlling your blood sugar levels should not be any different from other types of food.

If you have digestive problems then you might experience an upset stomach but you're just going to have to try and see. This is why starting with a low dosage is recommended.

Try just 1/2 to 1 scoop to start and see how you feel. A pure protein supplement like Optimum Whey is recommended.

This is a natural source of protein and is safe. You will just have to test it out and see how your stomach reacts. Good luck.
