What happens if we stop taking whey protein after a month?
by mradul
Answer: No. Whey protein is not a drug. You won't go through withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it. It's not addictive, and going cold turkey won't cause you any harm. Whey protein is not like steroids where you need to be careful with your dosage or prepare to stop using it. If you stop using whey protein, it's just like you would stop eating eggs, or beef for example. All you're doing is consuming less protein per day, not a big deal. But it's worth mentioning that just because you're not hitting the gym for whatever reason, doesn't mean you need to stop using whey protein. Whey is a very pure source of protein and is beneficial even for those who don't train. Its main benefits have to do with gaining muscle and tissue repair, but even if you don't lift weights you can still benefit from whey protein. So just because you stop going to the gym, doesn't mean you need to stop using whey protein. That being said, if you do stop using whey protein, no big deal. All you're doing is reducing a source of protein which usually isn't a big deal in itself. The only time this may be a concern is if you rely on whey protein for a lot of your daily protein intake. If you replace it with other sources such as meat and poultry products that's fine, but if whey was say 1/3 of your protein per day and you suddenly stop taking it, you should replace it with some other source. There are some other protein substitutes, however nothing really compares to the convenience and bioavailability of whey protein. Bottom line, if you can continue to take it regardless of whether you're training or not, do so. If you suddenly stop using whey protein, all you're doing is reducing your protein intake, which won't cause you any side effects, unless it results in your protein intake being "overall" too low. |
