What does Ginseng do?

Are there many Ginseng side effects

What does ginseng do?...

You might be wondering what this specific herb does, or if there are any ginseng side effects.

What you will find is that most of these natural remedies don't have a lot of scientific backup.

Although there are no cold hard facts, it doesn't mean this herb is not beneficial.

What are some of the general benefits?

Ginseng is marketed and promoted as an adaptogen.

You may have heard this term before. Basically, an adaptogen is a product that helps the body reduce stress.

There aren't many studies out there confirming the benefits of ginseng, however certain studies conclude that ginseng has anti inflammatory properties, as well as the ability to help reduce fatigue.

So a very broad overall benefit of ginseng is that it can improve your quality of life.

What exactly is ginseng?

When people think about herbal supplements, ginseng usually comes to mind.

It's probably one of the most famous Chinese herbs.

It has been the most used plant for herbal remedies over the past 4 to 7 thousand years. There are different types, but most of them have similar benefits.

At its core, ginseng is a plant found in China, Korea and parts of Russia.

It is a perennial plant which means it lives more than two years. With age, ginseng becomes more potent, producing more ginsenosides.

Are there any side effects of ginseng?

People have noted a connection between ginseng and high blood pressure, along with side effects such as:

  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Headaches
  • Trouble sleeping

Most of these ginseng side effects are quite rare and not very threatening.

In general ginseng and other adaptogens are quite safe to take, even in large amounts.

Remember if you have a pre medical condition, or are taking other medication always check with your doctor first.

Just because herbal supplements are natural and considered safe, does not mean they can't interfere with your current health condition or medication.

Some experts believe that you should cycle off ginseng. So, you might want to take ginseng for a few weeks, then take a week off.
