Vitamin Water

Is this a healthy source of vitamins?

Vitamin water has really exploded onto the beverage and health supplement market.

With some of the biggest sports stars like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James making commercials, almost everyone has heard of these drinks.

Many people are drinking them based solely on the 50 cent vitamin water commercial.

Is it all just hype and marketing?

When looking at some of these drinks, I was a little skeptical. Having a drink produced by Coca Cola supplying all the vitamins I need doesn't really sit well for me.

With health concerns becoming more mainstream, I think it was just a great marketing move for big companies like Coke. More and more people are beginning to understand how important daily vitamins are.

Having superstar athletes market your vitamins in a drink is certainly a winning solution for the drink company. But what about you? Are these drinks a quality source of vitamins?

First off I will say it's not totally a bad thing.

What I mean by this is that drinking a vitamin water is a bit better than other drinks on the market.

If you're substituting this drink for soda your doing yourself a slight favor. Some will have no sugar which is good. Some will have much less sugar than a can of coke, but others have almost the same amount. Read the labels carefully :)

If you're substituting this drink over a high quality multivitamin supplement, you're missing out.

Sometimes things are too go to be true. This is the case for both you the consumer, and Coca Cola, the brains behind marketing vitamin water.

With these drinks, you won't get all the vitamins you need for optimal health. You might get some vitamins but you will also get quite a bit of sugar.

Secondly, for Coca Cola.... They actually were being sued for deceiving consumers by marketing vitamin water as a healthy alternative to soft drinks. Over 30 grams of sugar per bottle is definitely not a healthy alternative.

You will not get enough nutrients from these products.

The amount of vitamins in these drinks is nowhere near the amount you would get with a quality multivitamin.

The other brands might not have the sugar that the Coca Cola brand has, but they still don't contain enough good nutrients. Plus they are pretty expensive.

How important are vitamins?

Read the facts about vitamins if you don't quite understand why you need proper amounts of vitamins.

This whole website is dedicated to providing information about health supplements. Through all the research done, the multivitamin is the most important supplement for everyone.

How important is water?

Well, if you've had the chance to watch Planet Earth, you can really understand how important the sun and water are to the world. In nature, everything depends on water.

So what about water and our bodies?

Most of your body and vital organs are made up of water. Water plays important roles in transferring nutrients around our bodies.

It flushes out things we don't need. It also helps keep your temperature stable. When you get hot or exercise, you sweat, releasing water to cool down.

But our bodies can only last a few days without it. That's why 8 glasses of water a day is recommended so often.

I think it's pretty obvious how important these two things are.

Trying to combine them into one product seems like a great idea. Unfortunately most of the vitamin water products on the market come up short of our expectations. Complaints surround the misleading labels and ingredients.

Some bottles have as much as 33 grams of sugar. A can of coke has 39 grams of sugar. I don't consider that a healthy alternative.

There are also over 100 calories in one of these vitamin drinks. Most nutritionist will agree that any vitamin benefit is offset by the added sugar and calories.

You're much better off drinking normal water and supplementing with a multivitamin. You can also get your vitamins from foods, but vitamins in food don't always compare to vitamins in supplements.
