Vitamin C in orange juiceIs freshly squeezed juice better than juice at the store? How much vitamin C in orange juice?.. If you're wondering about the vitamins in your glass of juice per day, you'll be surprised at all the other foods high in vitamin C. When it comes to juices, I like to think there are two different kinds: Freshly squeezed juice, and processed or packaged juice. One is certainly better than the other... can you guess which one? You're right! Vitamin C in orange juice that has been made fresh, is much better than the juice you would buy at the supermarket. So just because you're drinking juice, doesn't mean you're getting the most vitamin C you could get. Why is this the case? Well vitamin C can be affected during food preparation. Exposure to air, or being stored for periods of time may break down the content of vitamin C. Other things that may affect the vitamin C in juice is how it is made and manufactured. Think about the steps it would take to make a drink and package it. You can bet there are a lot of processes from gathering the oranges in their natural state, to when that drink gets put on the shelf. I have read about different experiments that tested the amount of vitamins in drinks sold at stores, versus freshly squeezed orange juice. The tests concluded that vitamin C in orange juice that is squeezed fresh is much more vitamin rich than typical products from the supermarket.
If it comes in a wrapper or package, it's probably not good for you! There are many vitamin C benefits that you should take advantage of. Unfortunately the vitamin C in orange juice that you buy at your local convenience store or super market might not be as beneficial as you think. Prepare the juice yourself. It's not hard. Buy a juicer and make it yourself. Another thing I would like to mention that is a huge problem with processed drinks and food is the sugar content. A lot of these orange looking drinks have loads of sugar in them. If it's not fresh natural food, you can bet it has added sugar. A great healthy tip for you to start doing is to read food labels. Your daily intake of sugar should not be above 60 grams. So if you drink a can of soda, which may have 30 grams of sugar, you've already consumed half the sugar for the whole day! And there's sugar in so many foods you probably don't know: Cereals, soups, sauces. Read the labels and look under carbohydrates. Right underneath it should say carbohydrates from sugar. If it's above 10 grams per serving, that's pretty high. Think about all the things you eat in a day, including your orange juice, and total all the grams of sugar you're having. Read the labels and see the amount you're eating. It's probably over 60 grams. That's not good. Try you're best to keep it below 60 grams. If you're concerned with your health, go fresh. Drink freshly squeezed juices and try your best to avoid foods high in sugar. Recommended Supplements
