Tired all the time? Maybe it's your hormones
by Charlotte Myers
I am a stay at home mother with 3 teenage kids and I am 45 years old. Why or what reasons I am so tired? What can I do to get passed the tiredness? I am in good health as well. Thank you Answer: When people complain about being tired, the usual recommendation is to exercise more and eat a healthy diet. You are clearly already doing this so it must be something else. I am not a medical doctor and this is just my opinion, but I would get your hormone levels checked out. If you visit your regular doctor he or she might just say that you're tired because you're chasing your kids around and so on. Unfortunately some people just "complain" and therefore people who really need expert help don't always get it. For most people more exercise and a better diet will help, but obviously in your case you need to try something else. So if your problem is "real" so to speak, I would visit an expert in women's hormones. When my mother was around your age, perhaps a little bit older, she had similar complications. She hadn't had a good night sleep in months and it wasn't until she visited a specialist in hormones that she found a solution. Extensive tests showed that her hormones were all out of whack. Her adrenal glands were running on empty and she was prescribed DHEA and testosterone creams. Over the last few years the formulas have been improved and she now takes DHEA in liquid form. The way she found a doctor was through Suzanne Somers. Suzanne recommended a doctor in one of her books or TV interviews that was located in the Toronto area. My mother visited this specialist and finally found the information and treatment she needed. So it looks like this path might work for you. At worst you can get some tests done and if nothing's wrong with your hormones you can check it off your list and continue looking. In my opinion based on your age and the information you provided it looks like your hormone levels should get checked out. Unfortunately many doctors don't know much about hormones, therefore finding a specialist is your best bet. On Suzanne's website there is a Doctor Resource Guide (click here) which can help you find a specialist near you. PS: How much maca root are you taking? Sometimes people may experience these symptoms from taking too much maca for too long. Here is a resource on maca root side effects with some questions and answers.
