Teens and Whey Protein

Hey, your review was very informative. I'm happy you decided to write about Whey Protein. My only question is will taking whey protein (1 scoop a day after workouts) have any side effects on a 15 year old adolescent who is still growing?

There are fitness trainers in my gym that clearly state that it will do harm to the liver/kidneys of a growing adolescent, but it's difficult to follow that one opinion.

I'm currently working out every day (different muscles different days) allowing 3-4 days of rest for each muscle. So in conclusion, I'm wondering if there are ANY possible side effects to taking whey protein at the age of 15?

Answer:

I don't think there's any strong evidence that a growing adolescent will experience side effects from whey protein. Whey protein is a natural and safe source of protein and is extremely beneficial for building muscle.

It is usually recommended that teens under the age of 18 not use supplements, however whey protein and multivitamins seem to be the exception. I would not recommend you use creatine or other types of supplements.

If you're exercising regularly and take a reasonable dose of whey protein you should be fine. Just watch out that you're not over-training. Rest days are important when you're trying to gain muscle.

Bodybuilding.com has an article about teens and supplements which confirms that taking whey protein should not be a problem for you.

Could I use whey protein if I'm 16 years old

by Bido_king
(Cairo)

The question is could I use whey protein if I'm 16 years old?

If yes, what is the dose I should take?

Answer:

Taking whey protein when you're 16 is fine, however it's usually not recommended until you are 18 years old.

18 is the recommended age for using bodybuilding supplements, however two exceptions are multivitamins, and whey protein.

In terms of a dosage, this should depend on your weight.

Combined with your natural diet, your protein intake should be around 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. This is ideal for muscle building, but you can always take less as well.

So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should consume around 150 grams of protein per day.

Typically, 1 scoop in the morning, and two scoops after a training session should be fine. If you don't train you can still take 2 scoops as a in-between snack. Combining this with a healthy diet will give you enough protein.

Way too much protein per day can lead to some problems so stay below 2 grams of protein per body weight. You will find that consuming too much protein is actually quite hard so unless you're eating extreme amounts, you should be fine.

Answer:

Whey protein is not bad for you, and it will not cause any growing problems.

1 scoop per day is fine. Remember whey protein is just another source of protein. It's good for athletes because it is absorbed by your body very fast.

17 years old and taking whey protein

by georges
(lebanon)

i m 17 , i want to take whey for little body building and i want to stop later , can i or will my body will be damaged????

Answer:

18 is usually the age that you should be before you use supplements.

It's a slippery slope when you OK someone who's 17 just because it's one year. Next thing you have 16 year olds saying they're almost 17 and so on.

So I wouldn't suggest you use bodybuilding supplements yet. However, whey protein will not harm you. If you take a reasonable dosage you should be fine.

Whey protein is just another source of protein. There are no ingredients which are known to cause you any harm. It's a safe supplement.

Taking protein under 18 years of age

by Martin
(Dublin)

Does it stun your natural growth or increase it?

Answer:

Whey protein will not alter your growth like you're describing.

It is not recommended to take bodybuilding supplements if you're under 18, however whey protein will not cause you any harm if you take a reasonable dosage.

Whey protein is just another source of protein like eggs and meat. The only difference is that it is a much purer form and is absorbed by your body very quickly and effectively. This is why athletes take it after they exercise.

It is a very safe supplement and the majority of people who use it have no problems at all.

That being said, it's often recommended that people under the age of 18 not use athletic supplements unless they have been given specific instructions to do so.

Age Restriction with Whey Protein

How old do you have to be to start drinking whey protein?

Answer:

If you're under 18 years of age, bodybuilding supplements and other performance supplements are not recommended.

At this age, drinking whey protein should not cause you any harm, but it is probably not needed. You're still growing and making natural gains, adding whey protein is probably not that effective.

Sticking to a good healthy diet should be enough.

That being said, whey protein won't harm you. It's just another source of protein, so sticking to a reasonable dosage is fine, even for teenagers. Optimum Whey Protein is a recommended supplement.

Whey protein and multivitamins seem to be the exception when it comes to supplements and teens.

Im 17 years old, what muscle mass supplements should I take?

What muscle mass supplements should a 17 year old take?

Answer:

It is usually recommended that you don't use muscle building supplements before you're 18.

That seems to be the recommendation on many nutritional supplement labels. Of course, if you're turning 18 in a few months, you might think it's not a big deal, but there has to be some baseline age or it becomes a slippery slop and suddenly 16 and 15 year olds are using these supplements.

But it's not just a number. At 18 you're growing naturally and producing more testosterone. If you exercise and eat right you will see enough natural gains.

Look to your natural diet first, before thinking about supplements. Focus on eating a lot of good healthy calories throughout your day. I would suggest looking up some mass gaining diets and try your best to follow them.

Focusing on not missing meals is probably the best thing you can do right now to help you gain weight.

If younger people really want to use a supplement to help them gain weight, a weight gainer would be the best option.

With a good weight gainer like CytoSport CytoGainer you will get lots of quality calories which will help you pack on the pounds.

But don't forget to get a solid base of good natural foods like lean meats, eggs, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes along with a good training program.

Get lots of healthy calories and do your best to not miss a meal.
