Monster Energy Drink
"Red Bull gives you wings....
Monster straps a jet engine to your energy levels" - Big Monster Energy fan
Monster Energy Drink sure has a loyal fan base.
The quote above says it all.
It's almost like a cult following that has grown into a branded community.
Monster is probably one of the most popular energy drinks on the market.
They have done this through great marketing, and according to energy drinkers everywhere, an awesome product.
Monster is probably best known for being one for the first energy drinks to come out
with the larger 16 ounce can.
With the Monster Energy logo, it's pretty hard to miss.
The look of the Monster Energy drink, and their slogan: Unleash the Beast, have
really worked well for them. Image is definitely a priority in this market.
But if the drink tastes like garbage, people aren't going to buy it.
That's another area where Monster really shines. Most people agree it
tastes great... for an energy drink.
The original drink has a nice citrus flavour that's not too sweet or too sour. Many
people claim that the Monster Energy drink is the best on the market. With the
success of their first drink, they came out with lots of other products.
They are categorized into three different product types:
Monster Energy, Java Monster, and Energy Shooter.
Monster Energy
Monster Energy (the orginal)
This was their first product.
The can with the green Monster Energy logo. It is their
best known product and top seller.
Lo-Carb
This is similar to the original but with fewer calories. It has a blue logo instead
of green. Many women in extreme sports turn to low carb energy drinks instead of
coffee.
Khaos
Since Monster has sponsored so many pro athletes, they tried to come up with a
product more suitable for them. They call it the "Juice Monster". It is meant to have
the same energy kick, but with 50% juice. It comes in a grey can with an orange
Monster Energy logo.
M-80
This is another juice monster. It was inspired by the surfing competitions in Hawaii.
M-80 is made up of 80% juice. This seems to be more of a healthy choice in the
Monster Energy drink line up. It comes in a grey can with a yellow Monster logo.
Mixxd
This is supposed to be a mix of many different flavours. Unfortunately most reviews
on this particular drink have been pretty bad. And yes, that's how they spell the name.
Assault
This is Monster's version of a cola, in an energy drink form. It is meant to have the
same energy kick, but with a cherry coke flavour. It comes in a silver can with a red
logo.
Java Monster
The Java Monster products have the patented Monster Energy blend, but with a coffee
brewed flavour. Some of the claims are that they have half the amount of caffeine as
a regular coffee, but twice the buzz.
There are differences in the ingredients and tastes within this product line.
For the
most part, the reviews have been really good for these coffee energy drink blends.
- Nut-Up
- Loca Moca
- Originale
- Mean Bean
- Lo-Ball
- Irsish Blend
- Russian
- Chai Hai
Energy Shooter
These would be the Espresso in the coffee world.
They come in a small 89 ml bottle and they taste similar to the main product line.
- Hitman
- Hitman Lobo
- Hitman Sniper
That's a lot of different product types for an energy drink.
Reviews for most of these products have been very good.
Monster has a large fan base
and a lot of die hard customers that continue to use their products and rate them
well.
Many of the energy drink review sites conclude that Monster Enery Drink is one
of the top energy drinks on the market.
However, there have been some complaints about saturating the market with so
many different products.
I think it's been hard to create other drink that can really
do as well as the original Monster drink. It is still the most popular out of
all their products.
Also, some of the marketing they have come out with is a little lame:
It's midnight Wednesday and the house party is about to go off. Everyone is jacked up
on the latest batch of jungle juice cooking in the kettle. Bring back any memories?
I don't really know what they're trying to get at there.
Sponsored Athletes
Monster Energy sponsors a lot of extreme athletes.
This has been a great way for them
to market their products. They sponsor athletes in everything from surfing and
skateboarding, to BMX and motorcross.
They have put together a large community of ahtletes in what they call the Monster
Army. The Monster Army is basically a group of athletes that represent the Monster
Energy brand all around the world.
Monster has also sponsored some music bands, and they have aligned themselves
with other companies within the extreme sports market.
Monster Energy has really grown into more of a brand and lifestyle, rather than just
a typical energy drink.
