Maca Side Effects - Moody and Increased Heart Rate
by Elizabeth
(New York)
I have been taking maca for 2 weeks -- I am beginning menopause and thought I would head off any problems before they arise. Since taking it (and I was taking half the dose recommended), I have become moody, my heart rate has increased (in fact my heart often feels like it is going to beat right out of my chest), and my breasts are tender. On the positive side, I definitely have increased energy and alertness, and I think that my skin looks clearer. I am going to stop taking it however, as the moodiness is very unpleasant and the heart rate thing makes me feel like I'm overdosing on caffeine. Answer: Hi there, thanks for sharing your experiences with maca root. Your side effects are quite common so nothing to worry about. Unfortunately some people just don't react well to maca, so it's great that you started with a low dosage and listened to your body. If you are still worried about entering menopause and would like a very safe supplement to help with some of the symptoms, I suggest you read about Xtend Life's Female Rejuvenator. It is designed to relieve PMS and menopause symptoms and help naturally balance your hormone levels. Plus it comes from a very respectable nutrition company so it's something you and other women in your position might want to consider. It is very safe and you won't experience any side effects.

Drug Interactions with Maca Root
by Aaron
(Edmonton, AB, Canada)
If someone has had a heart attack and is currently taking Lipitor and aspirin on a regular basis, can one still safely take this product?
Answer:
There isn't any definite reason not to take maca root while taking cholesterol reducing drugs like Lipitor, however it's always best to check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Lipitor isn't usually taken without a recommendation from a health care professional, therefore I would check with them.
There are some ingredients to avoid while taking supplements like Lipitor which block the body's production of cholesterol, but maca root does not seem to be one of them.
Again, I would double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be safe, but you should be fine.
There are some supplements and foods you should avoid while taking this drug.

Maca and Blood Pressure Medication - Some Healthy Alternatives
by Lenny
(Decatur GA)
My Testosterone levels are below normal and my doctor won't recommend any hormonal treatment drugs due to my family cancer history. Also my erections are not as good since taking blood pressure pills. What can I use that's safe?
Answer:
Yes there are definitely some healthy alternatives for increasing your testosterone levels naturally.
A supplement worth reading about is Xtend Life's Male Rejuvenator.
This supplement is not only a great way to naturally increase your testosterone levels, but it may also help prevent the risk of prostate cancer, and increase your sex drive.
It is a highly recommended male health supplement.
If you're still on other medication it's always recommended to run new supplements by your doctor, or contact Xtend Life directly and ask if your medication will cause problems while taking this supplement.
For women looking to balance hormone levels and increase their overall feminine health and wellbeing there's Xtend Life's Femal Rejuvenator which should be reviewed.

Maca root powder caused bad reflux and indigestion
by Christine
(NSW)
Hi I recently went on maca root powder and have been taking a quarter to half a tspn with breakfast and dinner for 8 weeks.
About 2 weeks ago I developed bad reflux and indigestion which got so bad this week I went off maca root and within 24-48 hrs the symptoms disappeared.
I was having a week off maca every month and sticking to the recommended dosages.
Just wondered if anyone has had similar problems.
C Y
Answer:
Thanks for your story.
Yes, some people have received these same symptoms. What's great is that you listened to your body and took the right approach.
Taking time off maca root is something many people find they need to do. Hopefully you find the right dosage and supplement schedule where you're benefiting from the supplement, and avoiding side effects. For maca this can be a bit tricky, but it looks like you've found a good balance.

Maca Root Interaction with Coumadin Warfarin
What, if any, are unwanted side effects from taking Coumadin Warfarin with maca root?
Answer:
This is something you will want to check with your doctor, however I haven't found any research regarding maca root and blood thinning properties. It looks like this would be fine, but in regards to prescription medication it's always best to check with your doctor.
