Maca Root Powder Dosage
by Shawn
I was just wondering what is a safe amount of Maca powder to start with in (teaspoons)per day or week or whatever? Answer: "Usually the recommended dosage is between 3000 and 5000 mg per day. The amount of pills you take per day will depend on the amount in each pill." 1 teaspoon is 5 grams (5000 mg). So this is your dosage per day. There are no exact guidelines but these are the most recommended. Also, like the maca root side effects article states, it's good to cycle your maca root as well. 2 weeks on, a few days off. 1 month on, and 2 weeks off. Again these aren't exact, but you shouldn't supplement maca root every single day. Some products might have a very pure source of maca and the recommendations might be around 1000 mg per day. Read the labels carefully.

Maca Root Powder Measurement
by Ingrid
(North Royalton, Oh)
I have raw organic maca root powder. How do I measure a 1000 mg? Teaspoon, tablespoon? Thank you very much!!
Answer:
The recommended dosages for maca root powder will vary.
Sometimes you will find a recommendation of 3 to 5000 mg per day, while other times it is recommended to take 1 to 3 teaspoons per day.
1 teaspoon is 5 grams (5000 mg).
It is always recommended to start with a low dosage of maca root and slowly build it up.
So if you're starting with 1000 mg (1 gram) that's good.
If you don't have a measuring cup that measures only 1 gram, just estimate using a teaspoon. Try about 1 quarter of a teaspoon and you should be fine.
Each week you can slowly build it up if you want. One full teaspoon (5000 mg) per day will probably be enough, however there are people who take up to 3 teaspoons per day (15 000 mg).
For the first few weeks don't take more than 1 teaspoon per day. Listen to your body and see how you feel after a few weeks.
Also, it's not suggested to take maca root all year around. Use it for 4 to 6 weeks, then take 2 weeks off. Cycling it like this will help you not build up a tolerance.
Also, there's no exact cycling schedule. Every 4 to 6 weeks you should take some time off.

Maca Root and Blood Pressure - 500 mg works great
by Rita Henderson
(Austin, TX)
Been on 500mg one a day for over a week. Have not used my blood pressure meds, as my pressure is now 110/70. I check it 3 times a day. One day it was 90/70.
I am happy to use something natural to keep it normal. I have extra energy, as before I was sleeping 10hrs a night, and then a nap during the day, and no energy.
I am a 64 yr old female, and work out about an hr 5 days a week. I plan on staying on this a long time, but may skip a day a week. I see some people are taking MASSIVE DOSAGES and I am surprised by this.
Answer:
Hey Rita, thanks for sharing your success with maca root.
I'm glad you're seeing results and taking a more natural approach to keeping your blood pressure at a healthy level.
Two important points that come from this story are the fact that you use a low dosage, plus you exercise daily.
Starting with a low dosage is always recommended and many people will find that as little as 500 mg will definitely help them see results.
Also, many success stories like this one also mention that fact that they exercise daily.
What people need to realize is that many of their health concerns can be drastically improved by cleaning up their diet, and starting to exercise regularly. Adding maca root is just the icing on the cake!
Thanks again.

Royal Maca Powder
by Elaine P.
(Denver, CO, USA)
I had been taking Soy pills as recommended by my doctor, but started having hot flashes again. Lady at health food store suggested the Royal Maca Powder . She said to start with 1/6th of a teaspoon.
How do I measure that? How much water or whatever do I mix it with? How often should I take it? When should I see results?
Answer:
Just estimate the measurement. If you're just over 1/6 of a teaspoon it's not a big deal.
Start with this low dosage and after 1 or 2 weeks if you want you can boost it up to 1/2 a teaspoon. You should see results after 2 weeks or so. Listen to your body and decide if you need a bit more or a bit less.
You won't need more than 5 grams (1 teaspoon) per day. So in the beginning start with 1/6 of a teaspoon per day, then after a week move it up to 1/2 and see how you feel. If you experience any unwanted effects just lower your dosage. If you experience any negative effects from 1/6 of a teaspoon this herb is just not for you.
Most people mix it into their drinks. So water works fine or hot drinks like tea and coffee work as well. You also have the option of using it in your cooking like baking. Most people find it more convenient to just mix it with a drink. Taking it in the morning is sometimes recommended but it doesn't matter.

Best time to take maca root
I have the actual maca root which I make into a tea. How do I measure the dosage? When is the best time of the day to take the root?
Answer:
It is usually recommended to take maca root in the morning, but it's really optional.
Most maca root experts recommend first thing in the morning, but you can test and see which you prefer.
The recommended maca root dosage is around 3 to 5 grams daily, but some people use a bit more.
You'll find that it is sometimes recommended in dosages of just 1 g, or up to 1 to 3 teaspoons (1 teaspoon = 5 grams)
So I would start with around 1 teaspoon (5 grams) per day, and see how you feel.
If you're preparing it in a tea, you will want to do your best to measure out 5 grams. Do this with a scale or cut and mash up the root until you have approximately 5 grams.
It is always recommended to listen to your body while taking maca root. It's always best to start low and slowly build up your dosage. For general health benefits you probably won't need more than 10 grams per day, however some people do consume a bit more.
Also, don't consume maca root all year round. Use it for 4 to 6 weeks and take 2 weeks off. Cycle on and off maca using some type of schedule like this. Again, listen to your body and see what works best for you.
