What is a liquid diet?

Every time you eat foods that have a high glycemic index, such as white bread, pastries, pasta, you spike your blood sugar levels. Your body reacts to the increase in blood sugar by releasing insulin from your pancreas.

This brings the blood sugar levels back to normal. But it can also bring them too low and cause them to crash. This is when you get really hungry again and crave more carbs.

Constantly eating these types of foods and sending your blood sugar up and down leads to weight gain.

A liquid diet in the form of low glycemic shakes will avoid these blood sugar spikes and crashes.

A typical liquid diet should last about 5 days. Most people lose about 5 pounds during those 5 days. It works by replacing all your meals with low glycemic shakes. You typically have 3 shakes a day and 2 snacks in between. Snacks can be fruits and veggies or a low calorie fiber bar.

After the 5 days is over, you can continue to replace some of your meals with the low glycemic shakes. Continuing to take the shakes for breakfast is a great idea. Starting the day with a low glycemic shake will help keep your cravings down throughout the day.
