How to lose Belly Fat

An easy explanation, and easy solution!

So you want to know how to lose belly fat.

Well, let's cover two things:

First, what makes the fat around your stomach, and what's the best solution to burning that fat?

That's all you need to know. One of the reasons you have a bit of belly fat to begin with is probably because you haven't heard this explanation before. The solution is easy.

The great thing about this topic is that the solution of how to lose belly fat targets the exact thing that causes the belly fat. This way the fat loss is long term.

We're going to target the fat at the core, or beginning stages. Similar to when you pull out weeds from a garden. Unless you remove the roots, they will grow back.

I know it's a little silly to relate the two, but it's true. Only when you stop belly fat at the roots, will it go away. That is a very important component of answering the how to lose belly fat question.

Where does belly fat come from?

You might be wondering, what are the roots of belly fat. Knowing how you develop your belly fat is important in order to fix it. After that we will get to the solution.

Your belly fat comes from what you eat.

Your body reacts to food by creating energy, fat, protein, muscles.... and the list goes on. The fat around your stomach can be linked to something called insulin.

Now, you don't need to know every detail about insulin. So don't get discouraged by this explanation because you don't know what the first scientific term means.

I'm going to leave out explanations and definitons of the things you don't need to know. You don't need to know every term. I want to make this very easy to understand :)

The version on this page is the basics. I think for most people it will be enough. There is a link to a more in depth article at the bottom of the page.

Where does this insulin come from?

When you eat certain foods, your blood sugar levels react. The sugar in these foods cause your blood sugar levels to rise. The more sugar in the food, the more your blood sugar levels rise.

The sugar in the food that does this is called glucose. It's not the sugar on cup cakes, Candy Canes, or in your coffee.

It's called glucose and it is found in carbohydrates. This is the first step in understanding how to lose belly fat. If you can control the glucose in carbohydrates, you're on track to getting a solution for how to lose belly fat.

And guess what, a system is already out there. It's called the glycemic index. This is an index that measures how much glucose there is in certain foods.

So if a carbohydrate has a glycemic index of say 100, that is bad. If however a food has a glycemic index of 25, that is good.

Low glycemic foods don't spike your blood sugar levels.

How to lose belly fat and Insulin

How are the glycemic index and belly fat related?

That's probably your next question. When you eat a high glycemic food, your blood sugar levels rise. Your body reacts to everything that you put into it.

It reacts to your blood sugar levels rising as well. It needs to bring them back down. This is when your pancreas releases insulin.

So you eat a high glycemic food, your blood sugar spikes, and your body reacts by releasing insulin. The insulin brings these levels back down.

3 bad things happen here that cause you to gain fat

Firstly, when those blood sugar levels come crashing down, you tend to get hungry again.

If you eat another high glycemic meal it starts a cycle. You eat, spike your blood sugars, they come crashing down, you get hungry again and it repeats itself. More food, more calories, more fat.

Secondly when you constantly release insulin to bring the blood sugar levels down, the extra insulin that remains stores fat.

This is why you have fat around your stomach. Stopping this excess insulin release answers your question on how to lose belly fat.

The third thing that is bad about this is that you are asking a lot from your pancreas.

You are sending your blood sugar levels on a roller-coaster and your pancreas needs to match it. It needs to work every time you eat a high glycemic food. Well, it does not last forever.

You might last a few years spiking your blood sugar over and over, but you run a high risk of damaging your ability to use insulin properly. And this leads to the d-word. Diabetes.

Those are 3 bad things. Constantly eating because your blood sugars are all out of whack and trigger hunger. You might develop diabetes. And what I know you are concerned about, you get that ugly belly fat.

These are some high glycemic foods to avoid:

  • Bagels
  • Chips
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Baked Potatoes
  • Cereals
  • Doughnuts
  • French Fries
  • Golden Grahams
  • White bread
  • Rice cakes
  • Jelly beans
