Fish Oil DosageQuality is more important than quantityA true examination of a fish oil dosage is really examining how much EPA and DHA you are getting. Wondering about the quality is more important than thinking about how much fish oil you should take. Quality really plays the biggest part. What are EPA and DHA? These are essential omega 3 fatty acids. They are the reason fish oil is so beneficial. Fish don't produce omega 3 fatty acids; they get them from their own nutrition. Fish that eat algae, and predatory fish that eat these fish, have good sources of omega 3 fatty acids. We catch these fish and extract the omega 3 fatty acids in the form of fish oil. As you can image, there is good and bad quality fish oil. Just like there are poor quality cars, appliances, clothes, etc.... There are poor quality supplements. Because fish oil is second only to a multivitamin in terms of importance, quality really matters. Those old pieces of junk, with the windows taped up, hub caps falling off, and smoke pouring out the exhaust might get people from A to B, but with supplements there's much more to it then that. A fish oil dosage that is of poor quality isn't worth taking. It's a waste. Your fish oil dosage should be all natural and free of contaminants. Why settle for anything less? Remember not all supplements are the same. Quality matters. If the company cannot guarantee the potency of their products, search for one that can. How much do I need? There's no special amount of fish oil you need to take. What this means is that there isn't any ideal amount that has been established. A recommendation on how to use fish oil will come with the product you buy. If you purchase your fish oil from a top quality supplement manufacturer, you can be sure the dosage they recommend will give you enough for an optimal level of health. The amount will also depend on whether you take it in a cap or liquid form. Some people will recommend 30 grams of fish oil daily. Others say 20 grams of EPA. Others just say follow the recommendations on the bottle. I prefer taking capsules over the liquid form. I find it easier this way. My fish oil supplement contains 200 IU (international units) of vitamin D3, 2000 mg of fish oil concentrate, EPA 580 mg, DHA 470 mg. Again what matters most concerning your fish oil is the quality.
