Creatine on rest days

I've been doing a 3 days on work out plan. Can I use creatine on my rest days?


Answer:

Yes you can use creatine on days you don't workout.

The article on How To Use Creatine gives a good explanation on using creatine monohydrate.

If you're using Cell Tech creatine, or other creatine mixes that may have a lot of sugar, read the Cell Tech Creatine Review page which talks about taking these supplements.

Basically, some creatine mixes come with a lot of dextrose which spikes your blood sugar levels. It is probably a good idea to cycle these creatine supplements on and off. Cycling on and off means using it for a period of time, say 4 to 8 weeks, then taking 4 - 8 weeks off. You don't want to be spiking your blood sugar everyday with these high sugar creatine mixes and this is why these types of products should be cycled.

But taking basic creatine monohydrate for longer periods of time should not be a problem.

When you use creatine monohydrate for a long period of time, or any type of creatine for a given cycle, taking it on your non training days is not a problem.

What does creatine do to your body if you don't workout?


Answer:

Creatine probably won't have much affect on your body if you're not working out. Most of the benefits of creatine are associated with athletic performance.

However some people are taking it regardless of exercise because it has shown some other health benefits. Again, increasing your energy levels and athletic performance is its main benefit. This is the area where studies and tests have proven creatine to be effective.

Now, if you take it and don't workout, your body will just flush out any excess creatine you don't use. You might experience some weight gain due to water retention, but you might not. There are mixed opinions on this.

People do take creatine on days they don't train which they call a maintenance phase, and people also see results with a loading phase.

Taking creatine in these areas has shown to increase your overall benefit, but others have also seen results without using a loading phase.

So, if you don't workout EVER, than taking creatine won't do much. It's probably just a waste of creatine. Your body will just flush out the excess creatine that you don't use. That being said, never take more than the recommended dosages. Generally, taking 5 grams a day without working out ever should not negatively affect your body, but it's probably a waste of creatine.

If you train regularly and take creatine on your non training days, than this can just be seen as a maintenance phase of taking creatine. 5 grams of creatine monohydrate on rest days is recommended.

Do you need to workout to use creatine?

Hey I just bought some creatine to get a sick bod... do i need to work out to use it?


Answer:

If you don't workout, you're not going to change your body.

Taking creatine alone won't do anything for you. You won't change your physical appearance from just taking creatine, so YES I would start training.

Supplements don't work like that. You can't just pop a pill and change your body.

Even if you take steroids, you STILL have to train to see positive changes in your body.

If you don't workout regularly, taking creatine is just a waste.
