Does Green Tea Contain Caffeine?



What's the caffeine content of green tea?...

Does green tea contain caffeine?

If you think you can substitute your coffee for green tea and leave the caffeine behind.... you can't.


However, the caffeine content of green tea is much lower than other sources.

Switching from coffee to green tea is definitely a smart choice.

This will really help you avoid some of the negative effects of caffeine.


Tea vs. Coffee

The average cup of coffee will contain about 100 mg of caffeine.

Your basic mug of green tea will have around 20 to 50 mg of caffeine.

Considering 300 mg of caffeine is a safe limit for adults, green tea is a much better choice than coffee. Plus it has many health benefits.

These days, there are some big time supporters behind green tea and its benefits.

It's not just the Chinese anymore. Respected Universities and health journals have concluded the health benefits of green tea.


It's important to remember that coffee and tea are not the only sources of caffeine.

Many different foods and drinks have caffeine.

You have probably read or heard about how a glass of red wine at night can be very healthy for you. Reports always state that people who limit themselves to 1 or 2 glasses of red wine per day, are much healthier people.

These studies always bring up a little red light for me. Although red wine does contain healthy antioxidants, I think other factors play a bigger role in the health of these individuals.

Most studies say that people who limit themselves to 2 glasses per day, are healthier than those who don't drink red wine, and those that drink more alcohol during the week.

Now, what kind of people limit themselves to 2 glasses of red wine...

These are generally healthy people. They don't drink too much. They have a good healthy state to limit themselves to two glasses.

So I don't consider these studies to be rock hard, but that doesn't mean red wine does not contain healthy antioxidants, because it does. It plays a role in keeping you healthy, but there are certainly other elements to keep in mind.

Back to the green tea side of things....

The antioxidants found in red wine are similar to the those in green tea, except for their potency.

The antioxidants in green tea are much more beneficial than those found in red wine.

So, not only is the caffeine content of green tea much lower than other sources, it has many health benefits. I would strongly suggest you start drinking green tea. It's easy and affordable.

And don't worry about drinking too much. From most of the green tea studies, if you aim for 4 or 5 cups per day, you will benefit the most. The more the better. But remember, green tea does have caffeine so if you drink too much late at night, you might have trouble falling asleep.
