Best Protein Bar

Taste - Price - Ingredients

Before we try and find the best protein bar, there's an issue you should probable know a little bit about.

If you're concerned with sugars, fats and carbs, don't trust the protein bar labels.

Studies have concluded that many labels don't actually match the product contents.

Sugars, fats and carbs are usually significantly higher than what's stated on the packages.

Now, they're not as bad as regular candy bars, but it's just something to be aware of. Some people want to really keep track of their nutritional intake, and with these bars you can't always be 100% exact.

Protein bars are not something you will want to be on regularly.

Use them for what they're good for; convenience.

And convenience in this context means once and awhile.

When you're looking for the best protein bar, there are 4 things you should review:

  • Taste
  • Price
  • Amount of protein
  • Best sellers

Taste is pretty hard to measure.

Obviously not everyone has the same preferences. These days products are pretty advanced and most bars will taste pretty good. If you look around the Internet, everyone is going to tell you different brands that taste great. Most protein bars have really improved their tastes over the last few years, so I wouldn't worry too much. No more cardboard that's for sure :)

Instead you might want to combine taste with company reputation. If you can find a good price with one of the leading supplement companies you're on track to getting a good protein bar.

One product that I was really surprised by was MuscleTech's Nitro-Tech Hardcore Bars. They tasted awesome. The reason I say surprised is because I'm not a big fan of protein bars. They just don't taste natural to me. These ones were a bit different though. Plus, it was great when I was getting them for free :)

Price is the problem. They cost just under 30 bucks for 12 bars. For me that's a little expensive. I would rather spend that on more important supplements.

So what's a good price?

I think 12 bars for $27.99 is expensive. If you're like most people who buy protein bars, you're going to eat them pretty fast. These don't last too long around the house because they're so convenient.

Now, you should probably know that they should never replace a protein shake or a whole food meal, but as a snack they're super convenient. However, over 2 dollars a bar, you're gonna break the bank.

When you start to look at products that are cheaper, you lose the things that make the expensive bars worth a try. I know it's annoying, even with these protein bars you can't have your cake and eat it too :)

The lower the price, the lower the calories and protein per bar.

A box of 5 South Beach Diet Bars is only $4.99. So that's a dollar per bar which is half the price of the more expensive bars.... But how much protein do you get? These bars only pack 140 calories, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your goal, and only 10 grams of protein.

You have to really know what you're looking for to find the best protein bar. For me, protein bars are not something I regularly eat, so price is less of a factor and protein per bar is what I would look for.

If you're looking for a snack to have in between meals, then price will be more of a factor considering you will be eating quite a few during the week.

Here are some other Categories for the Best Protein Bar:

Top Selling Bars

High selling products are usually an indication of a good supplement. Usually being the key word there. Some supplements can get good word of mouth buzz, and increase their sales. On the other hand bad products do leave the shelves all the time.

These particular bars have some of the best combinations of price and amount of protein or carbohydrate per bar:

Promax Bars

A box of 12 is less than $20. Each bar has 290 calories and 20 grams of protein. Overall that's a good price and amount of protein per bar.

Detour Bars

12 bars for just over $20, 330 calories and 30 grams of protein. Another good price and more calories and protein per bar than Promax Bars. This is another top selling protein bar. When a product wins a supplement award it's another sign that it's a pretty good product.

These are some of your top selling protein bars, considered by many to be the all around best protein bars. Based on price and protein, there's some good value there. I would recommend both of these bars.

Most Protein Per Bar

If price is a little less of a factor for you, and you're more concerned with the amount of protein per bar, this next product will interest you. They pack the most punch per bite.

ISS Research Oh Yeah! Bars

More protein, and less carbs.

A box of 12 is just over $20. Each bar contains 430 calories and 42 grams of protein. These are the big guns :)

If you're on a tight budget and more concerned with taste, consider the top selling bars as your top protein bar. These aren't too expensive and probably have the best taste.

If you're looking for calories and high amounts of protein, consider the second category. More calories, more protein and naturally, more dollars.

The best protein bar will really come down to your own preferences. There are a lot to choose, each with different characteristics. That being said, some product label claims will not match what's in the product. Since you might not get what you pay for, going with the top selling brands you will at least get the taste you're looking for :)

Remember that whenever you're looking for the best protein bar, don't rely on the given amounts of nutrients to be exact. Maybe up to half of the product labels are wrong. Like we mentioned earlier, take these bars for their convenience. Use them as snacks every once and awhile.

MET RX Protein Bars are also some of the best rated products.
