Are Expired Bodybuilding Supplements Dangerous?

Is it dangerous to use expired bodybuilding supplements like Cell Tech and Nitro Tech from MuscleTech?

Answer:

I think it depends on how long they have been expired.

The safe response would be to tell you to avoid all supplements that have expired. But, if they have just expired, or it's only been a few weeks, I don't think it will cause any problems.

One of my best friends worked for MuscleTech and he would get free Cell Tech creatine because it was expired. It was only expired a couple months and we used it without any problems.

If it has only been a few months, it shouldn't be a problem. That's just my opinion. If the supplements have been expired for over 6 months, I wouldn't take them.

Many people ask questions about expired whey protein.

The same suggestion would apply for whey protein. If it's expired a few months it's probably ok, however close to 6 months I wouldn't use it.

It's not just a question of safety either. Most expiry dates exist because after that date the supplement may not be as potent. So you might not get sick from drinking expired whey protein, but the quality of protein you're getting is in question.

Is it safe to take expired fat burners?

by z
(surrey)

I found a bottle of Arson fat burners in my closet and its 5 months expired. Is it safe for me to still take them??

Answer:

The safe response would be to suggest that you don't use expired supplements.

However if they're just expired a few months I usually don't have a problem with them. In your case 5 months is a bit too long. Personally I wouldn't use them.

Expiration dates are there for a reason and some experts have said that bodybuilding supplements have expiration dates because the ingredients are no longer potent.

So you probably won't get sick, but the purity of the supplements are in jeopardy after the expiration date and therefore it's probably best you don't use them.

In my opinion 1 or 2 months is fine, but anything more than that I wouldn't suggest you use them.

Post Workout Supplements which are Expired

Is it ok to drink a post workout supplement after its expiration date?

Answer:

Personally, I would take it if it's only about 1 or 2 months expired. Anything over that I would not use it. That's just my personally opinion, others might say that it's totally fine and they could be right.

One thing is that expiration dates are there for a reason. After a certain amount of time the ingredients within the supplement may not be as effective.

A few months over and you're probably safe, but anything after that and there's a greater chance that the supplement has lost its potency.
