Antioxidant Facts

Have you ever heard the
term oxidation?

Antioxidant Facts: Antioxidants fight off oxidation

The lack of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in our nutrition speeds up oxidation.

You probably know what oxidation is, even if you haven't heard of it.

If you've ever cut up some apple for a snack, and noticed it turn brown after about 30 minutes, you've witnessed oxidation. While oxygen helps you breathe and survive, it also breaks down your body.

It’s a natural process that is going on in your body. You cannot stop it, but you can slow it down, and help repair the damage it does.

Oxidation is fueled and accelerated by free radicals.

Free radicals come from stress, pollution, exposure to the sun, toxic chemicals in the water, and most predominantly from poor eating habits.

Free radicals break down the cells in your body. When you're eating unhealthy and not getting your micro nutrients, you are speeding up oxidation. When you speed up oxidation you increase the risk of degenerative diseases.

Degenerative diseases are aligned with your lifestyle. If you smoke cigarettes you get lung cancer, if you eat unhealthy and don't exercise, you get cardiovascular disease.

The number one killer today in American is cardiovascular disease, and poor eating habits is the main contributor. Vitamins, minerals and antioxidants help slow down oxidation and help prevent degenerative diseases.

Antioxidant Facts: Read this simple explanation

Consider your body as a 1 ton pick up truck.

Now imagine you load your truck with 1 ton of stress, and 1 ton of toxic chemicals from the environment. At this point you are overloaded, you have 2 tons in your truck when you can only hold 1.

Now open the hood and deplete half of the oil in the engine, this will represent the lack of nutrients in your food. So what you have is an overloaded truck without the right amount of oil in the engine. You have too much stress, too many toxic chemicals and not enough nutrients in your body to keep you healthy.

How long is that truck going to last?

Maybe weeks, maybe a month, maybe even a couple years. But eventually it will break down, and it will certainly break down much faster then a healthy truck with nothing in the trunk and an engine full of oil.

And that's what our bodies are going through.

Antioxidant Facts: Where do we find antioxidants?

Here is a list of the most common antioxidants:

Vitamin A Vitamin C Vitamin E

Selenium

This is an essential mineral that supports the function and structure of cells.

Coenzyme Q10

Your cells need this to function properly. It helps give your body energy. The body produces coenzyme Q10 naturally but it decreases with age.

Glutathione

This is an enzyme that helps protect against oxidative damage. Enzymes are proteins that help molecules react chemically.

Antioxidant Facts: Why do we need to supplement our antioxidants?

There are many things wrong with the average person's diet. These days a lot of people are overfed and under nourished. It has often been argued that the over eating and excessive obesity in North America, is a bigger problem then the lack of food in other parts of the world.

People are not getting enough micro nutrients from their daily food intake. The food that you eat can be broken down into two parts: macro and micro.

Macro nutrients are the carbohydrates, proteins, and fats that a certain food contains. Micro nutrients are vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Today's reality is that no matter how healthy you eat, for an optimal level of health, you cannot get enough of these essential micro nutrients from your basic foods.

This is one of the major issues with nutrition. The earth is constantly getting turned over and food these days is less nutritious, and much more of it is processed food.

Broccoli today has less then half of the calcium it contained 50 years ago. It's been said that an orange today contains only about 15 percent of the nutrients it contained only a decade ago. Numerous studies show us these antioxidant facts.

Even the nutrition for a vegan will not contain the essential micro nutrients a person needs for optimum health.

This is why it is recommended to take a good multivitamin. A high quality multivitamin can make sure you're getting the right amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, to live an optimal healthy lifestyle.

Antioxidant facts, and all the facts regarding micro nutrients tell us this:

Everyday we are exposed to free radicals: Sun light, pollution, toxic chemicals, stress and poor eating habits. These free radicals speed up oxidation, which breaks our bodies down. Oxidation makes you age quicker.

An optimal level of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals slows oxidation down, and helps repair the damage it does.

Out of all the free radicals mentioned, the one that we can fight back against is our poor eating habits. We have control of this.... You are healthy by choice, not by chance :)

The most effective and efficient way to fight off free radicals is with a powerful multivitamin supplement.

It's effective because it will give you the proper levels of micro nutrients you need everyday. If you rely solely on your food to get your micro nutrients, you are not guaranteed to get optimal levels of micro nutrients everyday.

Supplements are efficient because they are convenient, they make it consistent, and they're customizable to your specific health needs.
